China 6/20 Sunday

Today was our first day in Beijing. It was really hot, and most of us were tired due to the time change. We went to the Tiananmen Square and toured that area. It was really cool because of the massive size of it. Our tour guide said that it could hold up to 500,000 people! Then, we went into the Forbidden City, which was interesting because of all the history that happened there.

After that, we took a rickshaw ride around the residential areas, and had lunch with a local family. The food was really good and the family sold us some paintings. I got a painting of a tiger, Lucas got a painting of flowers, and Michael got a painting of bamboo.

Then, we toured the Temple of Heaven. The girls got their first Popsicle there. The Chinese call the popsicle Bing gun er (ice stick).

We changed our itinerary a little by switching when we were going to the Hongqiao Market because we were short on time. Then, we went to a resaurant that was across the street from our hotel. The food at the restaurant was really good and it was better from what I had thought it would be.
