Der Struwwelpeter

Der Struwwelpeter is a popular German children's book by Heinrich Hoffmann. If you are wondering why I am writing about a German children's book then I will explain it. In season two of the T.V. show of the "Office" they have a bring your daughter to work day and the character Dwight shows them this book. Then when we went up to our grandparents our grandpa showed us the same book and it was really funny to hear the stories in the book. Hoffmann, a German psychiatrist, wanted to buy a picture book for his son for Christmas in 1844. Not impressed by what the stores had to offer, he instead bought a notebook and wrote his own stories and pictures. Hoffmann had his mind made up by his friends to publish the book anonymously as Lustige Geschichten und drollige Bilder mit 15 schön kolorierten Tafeln für Kinder von 3–6 Jahren (Funny stories and funny pictures with 15 beautiful colored plates for children of 3-6 years).  in 1845. It was not until the third edition in 1858 that the book was published under the title Struwwelpeter.
